Foss’ Foot Sends SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team to Semifinals

NEW PALTZ, NY — Sophomore forward Greg Foss (Queensbury, NY) scored in the 103rd-minute to give, third-seeded, SUNY New Paltz a 1-0 double overtime victory over, sixth-seeded, Buffalo State this afternoon. The victory will send the Hawks to the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, SUNYAC, Tournament on Friday (Nov. 5) at 11:00 a.m. against, second-seeded, Geneseo at the Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, NY.

Three minutes into the second overtime. Foss grabbed a deflection off freshman forward Eben Hurley (Old Chatham, NY) and dribbled it to the middle of the box where he blasted a shot past Buffalo State goalie Shawn McDonnell (West Seneca, NY) to give the Hawks the victory.

The game was scoreless through the first three periods. Both teams played strong, but a majority of the play took place in the Buffalo State (11-5-2) end of the pitch. McDonnell recorded six saves for the Bengals, while Hawk goalie Jake Lammers (Highland, NY) made three stops and picked up his second shutout of the season.

With the win the Hawks improved to 12-9. In addition, SUNY New Paltz has achieved its highest win total since the 1970 season, when the team finished 14-5-1.
