NEW PALTZ — Do you ever think of how far your studies in studio art could take you? Join former Antiques Roadshow appraiser Greg Kuharic on November 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Center 102 for an enlightening conversation on the many professional possibilities that a career in the arts can offer.
Greg Kuharic studied art history, ceramics and sculpture at Ball State University and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, yet he became an appraiser, and worked at Sotheby’s. Combining his previous two careers, that of artist-craftsman and decorative arts expert, he currently works privately as an appraiser and consultant on all aspects of 19th and 20th-century decorative works of art. His hands-on background as an artist has been of tremendous benefit in working with the myriad materials associated with the artistic production of the 19th- and 20th-centuries.
Kuharic will discuss his career path from working as an apprentice in ceramics for Bethel Pike Pottery; operating his own studio from 1977-1987; becoming an appraiser on The Antiques Roadshow, WGBH, Boston, from 1997-2000; joining the 20th Century Decorative Arts Department at Sotheby’s, to working privately.
