Women’s Volleyball Team Finishes Second at Union Invite

SCHENECTADY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team split a pair of matches today to finish second at the Union Invitational in Schenectady, NY.

The Hawks began the day with a five-game loss to Skidmore who went on to win the tournament. Trailing 2-1, SUNY New Paltz won the fourth game 31-29 to force the fifth and deciding game that Skidmore captured 15-12. Junior outside hitter Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) had 21 kills and junior middle blocker Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) added 11 kills and eight blocks. Freshman setter Kate Becofsky (Altamont, NY) had a career-best 60 assists.

SUNY New Paltz wrapped up the day with a 3-1 win over Baruch. It was the Hawks second victory over Baruch in six days. After dropping the first game 32-30, SUNY New Paltz took the next three to raise its overall record 16-7. Sophomore outside hitter Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY) had nine kills and 24 digs and Becofsky added 36 assists.

SUNY New Paltz defeated Union College, 3-0, in their opening match of the tournament last evening.
