Hawks Shutout Farmingdale; Climb to .500 Mark

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team improved their record to an even 9-9 with a 3-0 shutout against SUNY Farmingdale.

The Hawks opened up the scoring in the 19th-minute when sophomore midfielder Brian Siergiej (Oceanside, NY) weaved his way through four Ram defenders and lobbed a shot into the upper right corner of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. With less than ten minutes to play in the first half, senior midfielder Chris Daly (Washingtonville, NY) gathered his own rebound and shot it into the goal to give SUNY New Paltz a 2-0 lead.

Three minutes into the second half, the Hawks put a series of shots on net and came away with a goal when sophomore forward Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) rebounded a shot from freshman forward Eben Hurley (Old Chatham, NY) and fired it past Farmingdale goalie Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) to give the Hawks a three-goal advantage. Santiago recorded nine saves in eighty-four minutes of play for the Rams (2-13-1).

In his first start of the season, senior goalie Alan Kuusisto (Pelham, MA) recorded a shutout.

After an 0-5 start, the Hawks have won nine of their last 13 contests.
