Hawks Own a Share of First With Win Over Oswego

KINGSTON, NY — Junior midfielder Kate Schoonmaker (High Falls, NY) scored two goals to lift the SUNY New Paltz field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Oswego this afternoon.

With the victory, the Hawks improved to 5-7 and equaled the program’s record for wins in a season set by last year squad. In addition, SUNY New Paltz raised its record in the SUNYAC to 3-1 and secured its first winning season in league play in the five-year history of the program. The Hawks (5-7, 3-1) will host SUNY Cortland in their final conference game on Friday (Oct. 15) at 1:00 p.m. SUNY New Paltz and Cortland currently share the top spot in conference with 3-1 and records.

SUNY New Paltz outshot Oswego 17-3 to pick up their fourth shutout of the season. Junior midfielder Kelly Proper (Red Hook, NY) and freshman midfielder Ashley Smith (Selden, NY) also scored for SUNY New Paltz.

Oswego (1-11, 0-5) sophomore goalie Kaitlin Daniels (Sag Harbor, NY) turned away nine shots for the Lakers.
