Hawks Fall to Defending National Champion Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team fell to defending Division III national champion SUNY Oneonta 5-0 this afternoon. Five minutes into the contest, senior forward Brooke Davis (Grand George, NY) sent a pass into the box where sophomore forward Patricia DiMichele (Centereach, NY) struck it into the goal to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead. At the ten-minute mark, Oneonta (15-1-1, 10-0) added their second goal on a shot from junior defender Sarah Tauber (Valley Stream, NY). The Red Dragon struck once more before halftime when senior defender Patricia Jaeger (Baldwin, NY) scored off a deflection to make it a 3-0 advantage. Oneonta tallied two more goals in the second half on shots form sophomore forward Leslie Small (Clifton Park, NY) and Davis.

The Hawks (6-8-2, 4-4-2) were unable to get any offense started and failed to put any shots on either Oneonta goalie. Senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) recorded fifteen saves, on 20 Red Dragon shots on net.
