Hawks Eighth in State and Regional Rankings

NEW PALTZ, NY — With a record of 20-7, the SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team is ranked in two of this week’s regional polls.

The Hawks are eighth in both the latest New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Assosciation (NYSWCAA) poll and the NCAA Division III New York region poll.

Under third-year Head Coach Matt Giufre, SUNY New Paltz has reached 20 wins for the first time in six years.

This weekend, the Hawks will face conference rivals Cortland, Oneonta, Potsdam, Plattsburgh and SUNYIT in the second round of SUNYAC Pool Play competition. The Hawks are currently 3-2 and in third place in the SUNYAC Eastern Division standings. A top three finish is needed to advance to November conference tournament.

In addition, SUNY New Paltz hopes to earn an invitation to the NYSWCAA Tournament. Following the announcement of the 12-team field on Sunday evening, the tournament will take place on October 30-31 at Cortland to crown the state champion.

New York University and Cortland are currently ranked one and two respectively in both polls.
