Hawks Defeat William Paterson for Program-Best Eighth Victory

Junior Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) set up freshman Ashley Bocast (Chico, CA) for the only goal of the game early in the second half to give the SUNY New Paltz field hockey team a 1-0 win over William Paterson in the regular season finale for both teams this afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, Wong delivered a pass to Bocast who was positioned inside the top of the circle. Bocast fired a shot past William Paterson goalie Kelly Harchetts (Clarksburg, NJ) to give the Hawks the lead 38 minutes into the game.

From there, the Hawks defense kept William Paterson (12-4) at bay and stopped the Pioneers four-game winning streak. Sophomore Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) made four saves to record her sixth shutout of the season. Harchetts made seven saves in defeat for William Paterson.

With a record of 8-11 this fall, SUNY New Paltz posted its highest win total in the five-year history of the program. The program’s previous best was five wins (5-12) in 2003.
