Hawks Defeat Union in Regular Season Finale

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team wrapped up its best regular season in five years with a 3-0 win over Union this evening.

The Hawks, now 26-8, used a balanced attack to earn their 11th win in their last 12 matches. In addition, SUNY New Paltz picked up its second 3-0 win over Union this fall.

Sophomore outside hitter Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY) had 10 kills, nine digs and three service aces. Freshman Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) and sophomore Jenn Hembury (Montgomery, NY) split time at setter and had 18 and 11 assists respectively.

It was the final home match for senior defensive specialist Lisa Mason (Camillus, NY) who had eight digs and one service ace.

SUNY New Paltz is one victory away from equaling its highest win total in five years. The Hawks went 27-15 during the 1999 season.

SUNY New Paltz will travel to Cortland, NY for the opening round of the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tournament on Saturday (Oct. 30). The Hawks, who are seeded seventh in the tournament, will face 10th-seeded Brockport at 12:00 p.m.
