SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Beats Mount St. Mary’s

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team defeated Mount St. Mary’s 9-0 this afternoon.

In number one singles freshman Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated freshman Gina Tripini (Walden, NY) 6-4, 7-5. Senior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Center, NY) beat senior Briseyda Acevedo (Newburgh, NY) 6-0, 6-3 in number two singles. In the third flight, freshman Alexandra Goldberg (Scarsdale, NY) defeated senior Stacey Mikulak (Peekskill, NY) 6-0, 6-1. In number four singles, sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) defeated senior Lauren LeMon (Warwick, NY) 6-0, 6-4. In number five singles, senior Amanda Rosario (Bronx, NY) beat junior Tara Simmons (Beacon, NY) 6-3, 6-1. In her first singles match this season, junior Laura Thomas (Hyde Park, NY) won 6-0, 6-0 over sophomore Jennifer Fontes (Farmingham, MA).

The Hawks (5-1) swept the Blue Knights (3-1) in doubles play as well. In number one doubles Yamakawa and Farrell defeated Trapini and Acevedo 8-1. In the second doubles flight, Goldberg and Larson defeated Mikulak and LeMon 8-3. Rosario and freshman Stephanie Giosa (Malverne, NY) defeated Simmons and Fontes 8-4 in number three doubles. It was Giosa’s first collegiate victory.
