SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Falls to 2-3-1 in Loss

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team surrendered a goal seven minutes into the contest and fell, 4-0 to Vassar College this afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Claire Beitcher (Santa Monica, CA) received a pass in the box from senior defender Margaret Daniel (Tyler, TX) and shot it over the head of senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. Daniel would also assist on the following two first-half Vassar scores. Beitcher registered two of Vassar’s goals and assisted on another.

SUNY New Paltz (2-3-1) rifled off thirteen shots, including five from sophomore forward Alison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, NY), but could not convert against Vassar’s strong team defense.

Junior goalie Heather Jaffe (Belle Mead, NJ) started the game Vassar College (1-1) and picked up the win. In relief, sophomore goalie Lisa Strumwasser (Malibu, CA) made eight saves on SUNY New Paltz’s ten second-half shots.

The Hawks will play their conference opener on the road this Friday, Sept. 17, against SUNY Fredonia at 4:00 p.m.
