SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Bests Potsdam 8-1

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team improved 2-1 in conference play with an 8-1 victory over Potsdam this afternoon.

Nine minutes into the game, the Bears (1-6-1) struck first when senior forward Jodi Ziembra (Russell, NY) put a shot just out of reach of senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) to put Potsdam up 1-0.

The Hawks (4-4-1, 2-1) were not down for long. At the thirty minute mark, freshman midfielder Lauren Martel (West Sayville, NY) tied the game on a pass from sophomore forward Alison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, NY). Sophomore forward Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) combined with senior defender Lauren Pastore (Levittown, NY) for what would be the game-winner, at the two minute mark, to put the Hawks up 2-1 at the half.

SUNY New Paltz made it a different game in the second half with six goals in the final 45 minutes. Pastore would add a second tally and Kelty would finish with a goal and two assists to conclude an impressive Hawks performance.
