SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Falls to Plattsburgh 3-2 in 2OT

PLATTSBUGH, NY — Cardinal senior midfielder Andrew Knoll (Duanesburg, NY) converted a direct kick with fourteen seconds remaining in the second overtime period to give Plattsburgh the 3-2 victory over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon.

Knoll’s game-winner resulted from a yellow card that was assessed on the Hawks for delay of game. His second attempt at the direct kick was good and the win kept Plattsburgh unbeaten in its first eight games.

SUNY New Paltz (2-7, 2-2) fought back from a two-goal deficit to force the overtime play. The Hawks knotted the score with goals, in the 51st and 69th minutes, by sophomore forward Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) and sophomore midfielder Chris Smith(Washingtonville, NY). Sophomore forward Greg Foss (Queensbury, NY) was credited with the assist on each.

Plattsburgh (7-0-1, 3-0-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half on goals from freshman midfielder David Widenmaier (Perth, ONT) and junior forward Eric Skivington (Scottsville, NY). Widenmaier assisted on the second tally.
