Plattsburgh Defeats SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team 3-1

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team fell to conference rival Plattsburgh 3-1 this afternoon.

Solid defensive efforts on both sides led to a 0-0 score at the half. Soon after, however, Plattsburgh senior forward Kaleen McCool (Plattsburgh, NY) was awarded a penalty kick, at 46:45, which she buried in the upper left corner of the net.

Plattsburgh (6-3, 3-1) capitalized on the shift in momentum and later added to their 1-0 lead. Junior midfielder Elyse Lafountain (Moors Forks, NY) scored off a pass from freshman midfielder Sally Capetta (Spencerport, NY), at the 60-minute mark, and sophomore forward Deanna Cipoletti (Commack, NY) followed soon after to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead with less than thirty minutes remaining in the game.

The Hawks (4-5-1, 2-2) avoided a shutout when sophomore midfielder Stephanie DeRobertis (Newburgh, NY) slipped one past sophomore goalie Joia Aliperti (Commack, NY) with less than four minutes to play to make the final 3-1, Plattsburgh.

Senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) recorded eight saves for SUNY New Paltz.
