NEW PALTZ — Associate professor David Gee and student intern Cassandra Hyacinth of the Department of Educational Administration at the State University of New York at New Paltz were honored by the New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCOSS) on Monday, Sept. 20, at a ceremony in Saratoga Springs.
Gee was honored with the Most Distinguished Service Award, the highest award that NYSCOSS gives, and Hyacinth (White Plains School District) has been selected to be the recipient of the Raymond Delaney Scholarship, of which only one person in New York State is given the award. The person receiving this award must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and the potential of becoming a school superintendent.
Gee has a wealth of experience in educational administration, having served as a superintendent for four separate school districts and as assistant principal for two others, all in New York State. He earned his doctorate in educational administration from the Teachers College, Columbia University, in 1988 and has a master of arts in administration and supervision, as well as in social studies.
Prior to arriving at New Paltz in the fall of 2004, Gee was an adjunct professor at New York University, teaching graduate and doctorate leadership courses. He is the president-elect of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), where he has served on the executive committee since 2001.
The New York State Council of School Superintendents is a professional and advocacy organization with over a century of service to school superintendents in New York State. The council provides its more than 800 members with numerous professional development opportunities, publications and personal services, while advocating for public education and the superintendency.
