Hawks Compete at NYU Invitational

BRONX, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross country teams were at historic Van Cortlandt Park for the New York University Invitational this morning.

For the second straight week, the Hawks were paced by senior Jason Letts (Plattsburgh, NY) who finished 84th with a time of 29:54. Sophomore Harry Sudwischer (Copiague, NY) came in 117th with a time of 31:02. Also finishing among the top five finishers for the Hawks were: junior George Correa (Central Islip, NY) 211th, 36:29, sophomore Mike Nelson (Dix Hills, NY) 214th, 36:59 and senior Sam Austin (Northport, NY), 226th, 38:48.

SUNY New Paltz finished 23rd overall with 667 points. Led by three runners among the top 10 finishers, Wesleyan University won the meet with 50 points. Wesleyan’s Owen Kiely finished first with a time of 26:28. Washington & Lee was a distant second with 116 points.

Senior Kelly Moore (Rochester, NY) led the women’s team to an 11th place finish. Moore was the Hawks top finisher with a time of 21:30 and a 43rd place finish. Sophomore Alida van Almelo (Groton, NY) crossed the finish line in 21:48 and came in 51st. Sophomore Jessica Waterbury (Mount Sinai, NY) was 76th with a time of 22:25.

Rounding out the top five for the Hawks were freshman Christine Carlstrom (Newburgh, NY) who was 84th with a time of 22:32 and freshman Noreen Avallone (Hyde Park, NY) who came in 110th with a time of 23:03.

The Hawks finished the meet with 72 points. The University of Findlay finished first with 72. Amy Kuston of Lehman won the race with a time of 18:34.
