Fliegel Scores Late to Lift Hawks Past Buffalo St.

BUFFALO, NY — Sophomore midfielder Alison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, NY) scored the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute to give the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over conference rival Buffalo State this afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, senior defender Lauren Pastore (Levittown, NY) scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute to tie the game at one.

Senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) blanked Buffalo State (3-3-1, 0-2-0) for the final 63 minutes to earn the victory. Fenton, who stopped five shots, surrendered the game’s first goal to freshman forward Missy Balling in the 27th minute.

The win gave the Hawks a split in the opening weekend of SUNYAC play. SUNY New Paltz (3-4-1, 1-1-0) dropped a 4-2 decision at Fredonia yesterday afternoon.
