Hawks Place Three on Baseball All-Star Teams

NEW PALTZ, NY — Three members of the SUNY New Paltz baseball team were recently named to post-season all-star teams.

Sophomore outfielder Jeff Cote’ (Mechanicsville, MD) was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate All-Star Team. Cote’ hit a SUNYAC-best .475 with three homers and 21 runs batted in. He produced 10 doubles, three triples, scored 24 runs and had a .787 slugging percentage. Cote’ also recorded 12 multi-hit games and ended the season with a 15-game hitting streak. He was a First Team All-SUNYAC selection in the spring and a two-time conference Player of the Week. In addition, he was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Hitter of the Week on April 28 after hitting .625 over a six-game stretch. In the classroom, Cote’ was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award. The Chancellor’s Award is given to the student-athlete in each SUNYAC sponsored sport who owns the highest grade- point-average and is a member of an All-SUNYAC team. Cote’ earned a grade point average of 4.0 in the fall as a computer engineering major.

Sophomore outfielder Vinny McAdams (Little Falls, NY) and freshman third baseman John DeKams (Kings Park, NY) were each named to the New York Region Division III ABCA/Rawlings All-Star Team. McAdams, a second team selection, set a SUNY New Paltz single-season record for hits with 56. He also led the Hawks with 14 doubles and 16 stolen bases and finished second on the team with a .421 batting average (56-for-133) and 24 runs batted in.

DeKams was named to the third team in his rookie season. He drove in a team-best 34 runs and his .388 batting average was third on the team. DeKams had 14-multi-hit games and at one-point hit safely in 13 consecutive games. He also appeared in six games as a pitcher and went 2-2 with a 5.48 ERA.
