Three SUNY New Paltz Baseball Players Named All-SUNYAC

NEW PALTZ, NY — Three members of the SUNY New Paltz baseball team were named to the 2004 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Conference Team. Sophomore Jeff Cote’ (Mechanicsburg, MD) earned a spot on the first team while senior Silverstre Castro (New York, NY) and freshman Dean Glanzman (Commack, NY) garnered a place on the second team.

Cote’, an outfielder and two-time SUNYAC Player of the Week, led a potent Hawks’ offense that finished with a .321 team batting average. He was the SUNYAC’s leading hitter with a .475 batting average and was among the team leaders in doubles (10), triples (3), home runs (3), RBI’s (21), runs (24), and slugging percentage (.787).

His finest game of the season came in the 11-8 win over local rival Mount Saint Mary on April 22nd where he went 4- for-4, hit for the cycle, scored four runs and drove in five. Cote’ had 12 multi-hit games and ended the season on a 15-game hitting streak.

Castro, a second baseman and 2003 All-SUNYAC second team member, finished the year with a .328 batting average, 10 doubles, 30 runs, 16 RBI’s and a team-best 16 stolen bases. He ended the season with a 10-game hitting streak and batted .513 during that stretch.

Glanzman, a first baseman, started 29 games this season and hit .241 with 12 runs, 15 RBI’s and had a team-best .982 fielding percentage. He was at his best against SUNYAC opponents where he hit .357 (10-for-28) with five runs and four RBI’s.

Glanzman was a key factor in a doubleheader sweep of SUNYAC rival Plattsburgh State on April 18th. The freshman combined to go 5-for-7 with a double, a run, and two RBI’s in the 10-5 and 10-7 victories.

New Paltz finished the season with a 14-24-1 record and a 5- 8-1 mark in the SUNYAC.
