SUNY New Paltz appoints new assistant vice president of human resources

NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz has appointed Dian Bustillo to the position of assistant vice president of Human Resources.

Bustillo’s comes to New Paltz with a wealth of higher education human resource experience, having most recently served as director of human resources at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, a position she held there since 1995. Previously, Bustillo had also worked as deputy director of human resources at New York University, School of Education; and deputy director of personnel at Lehman College, Bronx.

“With this terrific new hire, it’s our hope to take our entire human resources operation to a whole new level of expertise,” said Steven Poskanzer, college president. “We want New Paltz to be the employer of choice for faculty and staff and we expect that Dian will help us make that a reality.”

At New Paltz, Bustillo will oversee an office operation composed of 10 staff members and an employee base of about 1,600 including academic, professional, graduate assistant, civil service and research foundation employees represented by five negotiating units.

In addition, she will be responsible for providing expertise and authority for personnel policies and procedures involving employment, compensation, benefits administration, classification, training, performance evaluation programs, labor/management issues, counseling, human resource data management, affirmative action and SUNY-wide business matters.

“This is the right time, exact right moment and New Paltz is the exact right place,” said Bustillo about her decision to take the position at New Paltz. “I have always wanted to live north of New York City.”

Bustillo holds an Executive M.P.A. from CUNY Baruch College and her B.A. from CUNY Hunter College.

Bustillo was born and raised in Manhattan and currently lives in Hempstead, NY. She plans on relocating to the New Paltz area once she begins at SUNY New Paltz on Aug. 2.
