SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Team Defeats CCNY, 47-37

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team stopped a six-game losing streak with a 47-37 win over City College of New York this evening at Elting Gym.

Freshman guard Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) led the Hawks with 10 points as New Paltz improved to 2-6. CCNY is now 3-6.

An early 3-of-17 shooting performance by the Hawks helped the Lady Beavers jump out to a 17-6 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. From there New Paltz outscored CCNY 10-2 the rest of the way to go into halftime trailing 19-16.

The Hawks then scored the first nine points of the second half and a basket by Kelty put New Paltz ahead 25-16. A three-point field goal with 8:50 remaining by senior forward Lindsay Dakin (Andover, CT) gave the Hawks its first double-figure lead, 38-28. Kelty then sank a three-pointer to extend the margin to 41-28 with 5:30 to play.

CCNY was led by junior forward Anclin Perez (Brooklyn, NY) who scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting.

Freshman guard Kelly Germain (Albany, NY) and sophomore forward Tania Liberato (Brentwood, NY) each had seven points for New Paltz who picked up its first win at home this season. The Hawks will entertain Skidmore College on Saturday (Jan. 10) at 2:00 p.m.
