SUNY New Paltz Swimming Teams Defeat Local Rival Vassar College

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s swimming teams defeated Vassar College this afternoon. The men evened their record at 2-2 with a 113-100 victory and the women won 109-98 to remain perfect on the season at 4-0.

In the women’s meet, junior Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.52 and sophomore Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY) won the 100-yard freestyle in 55.34 to lift New Paltz over Vassar.

The men’s team was led by Jon and Jay Sousa (Albany, NY). Jon finished first in the 200-yard IM in 2:03.81 and Jay won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.83. Jon teamed with freshman Danny Lo (Toms River, NJ) and seniors Nathan Haus (Binghamton, NY) and Mark Costello (Staten Island, NY) to take the 400-yard medley relay in 3:55.14.

SUNY New Paltz Highlights vs. Vassar College

Men- Jeff Melton and Connor Reynolds took second and third in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 59.79 and 1:00.58, respectively.

Women- Junior Danielle Linder placed second in the 200-yard IM in 2:21.00 and second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:45.11.
