Monahan Named Second Team All-SUNYAC

NEW PALTZ, NY — Junior Bobby Monahan (Holtsville, NY — Sachem HS) capped off a strong first season with the SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team by earning a spot on the league’s all-conference team.

Monahan started 13 of 14 games on defense for the Hawks and earned second team All-SUNYAC honors. With the transfer from Suffolk County Community College as part of the defensive unit, New Paltz surrendered 1.8 goals per game. Monahan also played a prominent role in three shutouts, including a 2-0 win over conference rival Oswego on Oct. 18, which helped ensure the Hawks first conference tournament appearance since 1987.

New Paltz, who went 6-8-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the SUNYAC, finished sixth in the conference and earned the sixth and final seed in the league’s post-season tournament. The Hawks suffered a 3-0 loss to third-seeded Cortland in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday (Nov. 4) in Cortland, NY.
