NEW PALTZ — Dr. Maya Angelou — poet, educator, historian, best-selling author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist, producer and director — will speak at the State University of New York at New Paltz at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, in the Elting Gymnasium.
Angelou has authored 12 best-selling books, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and her current best-seller, A Song Flung Up to Heaven.
Angelou has been awarded nearly 50 honorary degrees, received the Presidential Medal for the Arts, has been selected as a member of the National Women’s Hall of Fame and, in 1993, became the second poet in U.S. history to have the honor of writing and reciting original work at the Presidential Inauguration.
Tickets are on sale at the Student Union Building (first floor) Information Booth on the New Paltz campus. Tickets for SUNY New Paltz students are $5; faculty and staff $10; all others $20 and front row seats are $30. Tickets will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
