NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women s tennis team remained perfect on the season with a 7-2 victory over Hartwick College. New Paltz upped their record to 5-0 while Hartwick dropped to 3- 3.
New Paltz captured two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches. After dropping the number one doubles flight, the Hawks responded as sisters Amie and Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) won the number two doubles, 8- 3, over Carolyn Kanigowski (Windsor Locks, CT) and Amanda Gerich (Endwell, NY). They also won the number three doubles, 8-2, behind the play of Jessica Smith (Newport News, VA) and Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY).
The Larson sisters also won their singles matches with Amie winning at number four singles, 6-0, 6-1, over Julie Scarano (Little Falls, NY) and Jen winning at number five singles, 6-2, 6-0, over Elizabeth Green (Endwell, NY). Co- captain Kerry Farrell (Rockville Centre, NY) improved her season record to 5-1 at number one singles with her 6-2, 6- 0 win against Grace Hughes (Elmira, NY). The Hawks other singles match wins were from Amanda Rosario (Bronx, NY) at number three singles, 6-1, 6-1 and from Smith at number six singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Hartwick s Mara Tichy (Bayport, NY) and Hughes won 8-5 at number one doubles and Tichy won 6-2, 6-3 over Goldstein at number two singles.
