New Paltz Field Hockey Team Falls to 12th Ranked Montclair State

UPPER MONTCLAIR, NJ — Senior midfielder Megan Ulicny (Edgewood, NJ) scored a hat trick and senior forward Sarah Levine (Pompton Plains, NJ) added two more goals to lead 12th ranked Montclair State to a 6-0 win over SUNY New Paltz this evening.

Freshman forward Kristen Swartz (Hatboro, PA) notched her first collegiate goal for the Red Hawks who outshot New Paltz 37-6. Sophomore goalie Erica Engstrom (Montauk, NY) made 20 saves for New Paltz who dropped to 2-5.

Swartz opened the scoring for Montclair State nine minutes into the game when she banged home a rebound past Engstrom who had stopped three other close range scoring opportunities for the Red Hawks before Swartz’ tally. Engstrom made several more saves in the half to keep the game close, however Ulicny extended the lead to 2-0 with 19 minutes left in the half when she scored off a penalty corner.

Levine then increased the lead to 3-0 just before halftime when she knocked in rebound off a shot by Jaimie Lukacs (Bordentown, NJ).

Montclair State added three more second half goals to register their fifth victory in six games.
