Men’s Soccer Team Defeated by Kings Point in Season Opener

NEW PALTZ, NY – — Senior midfielder Joe Meagher (Staten Island, NY) scored three minutes into the game and Kings Point never looked back in a 4-1 win over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon.

Kings Point (3-1) made the most of their scoring opportunities and piled on three goals in the final 45 minutes. Junior forward Everett Lindholm (Covington, LA) scored his fourth goal in as many games with an unassisted tally at 54:18 to extend the Mariner’s lead to 2-0.

Kings Point would go on to add two more insurance goals when freshman forward Matthew Dolan (Sandy, UT) and sophomore midfielder Nick Dandapani (Redding, CT) scored past Hawks’ goalie Brendan Morris (Hopewell Junction, NY). Morris, making his New Paltz debut, recorded six saves.

New Paltz (0-1) sophomore forward Colin Hillman (Trumansburg, NY) broke the Mariner’s bid for a shutout with an unassisted goal at 68:31.

Kings Point sophomore goalie Jarred Schwandt (Libertyville, IL) made six saves for the Mariners who have outscored their opponents 13-4 in their first four games.
