NEW PALTZ — Twelve State University of New York at New Paltz students were recently honored with Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence. In a private ceremony held on April 21 in Albany, State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King presented the students with the awards in recognition of both their academic achievements and contributions to the campus community.
“These students are among the State University’s best and brightest,” said Chancellor King. “Their commitment not only to academic excellence, but also to serving the wider community, indicates they are likely to emerge as New York’s future leaders.”
The following 12 outstanding New Paltz students were honored: Jonathan Amoia, Zenobia Archer, Pasquale Catalano, Heather Downey, Linda Flanagan-Loggins, Heather Gillman, Adaobi Okobi, Evelyn Grace Ortiz, Melissa Phillips, Constance Rivera, Wendy Rodriguez and Jessica Vargas.
Steven Poskanzer, president of SUNY New Paltz, said, “I am very delighted and proud that we have such a significant number of extraordinary young men and women who have been recognized for their exemplary academic achievement, leadership, athletic success and community service.”
The New Paltz students were among 283 students honored with the award, a group representing 61 campuses within the SUNY system, which have a combined grade point average of 3.77.
