New Paltz Names New Head Softball Coach

NEW PALTZ – — SUNY New Paltz Director of Athletics Stuart Robinson has named Brad Duckworth as the new Head Softball Coach.

Duckworth replaces Alan Dunefsky who spent the last three years as the team’s head coach. Dunefsky also served as the head coach from 1982-91 and during that time built the program into a perennial New York State Tournament participant. His 1988 squad went 16-6 and captured the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. During that time, the program also advanced to the SUNYAC Tournament in 1987 and 1989. In his 13-year association with the program, he coached several all-conference players including four-time All-SUNYAC selection Kathleen Mahon.

Dunefsky will however maintain his role as the Director of Intramurals and Recreation at New Paltz.

Duckworth, who will continue to serve as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at New Paltz as well, served as the Assistant General Manager and Director of Operations for the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods All-Star Summer Collegiate League from 1999-2001. In 1997 he was the Head Varsity Baseball Coach for Necedah Area High School in Necedah, Wisconsin. From 1995-97 he was also the Head Baseball and Softball Coach for the Necedah Youth Program.

This winter, Duckworth’s women’s basketball squad was among the most improved in the SUNYAC. He took over a program that had gone 4-21 a year ago and guided them to a 9-16 mark.

The SUNY New Paltz Softball team went 2-27 this season.
