Lindner Named Women’s Swimming MVP

NEW PALTZ, NY – — Sophomore Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY) was recently named the 2002-03 Most Valuable Player for the SUNY New Paltz Women’s Swimming program. Lindner received the honor at The College’s annual sports banquet on May 7.

Lindner enjoyed an outstanding sophomore season and helped lead the New Paltz Swimming & Diving team to a third place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship in February.

Lindner took home a conference championship in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.32. She was also second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.59) and the 200 IM (2:13.35), and was a force on several of the Hawks’ relay teams. She combined with sophomores Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY) and Andrea Ditter (New Paltz, NY) and freshman Joanna Masterson (Canadaigua, NY) to finish second in the 800 free relay with a school record time of 8:10.97.

The 200 medley relay team of Lindner, senior Molly Soule (Clinton, NY), Grempel and freshman Joanna Masterson (Canadaigua, NY) was third with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:53.10. The foursome also placed third in the 200 and 400 freestyle events (1:39.93 and 3:40.31).

At the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship in March, Lindner and her teammates swam impressive relays against a field of Division I, II, and III programs, and qualified for the finals in the 200 free relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Their top finish came in the 200 free relay where they were13th with a time of 1:41.34. They also finished 15th in both the 200 medley relay (1:53.59) and the 400 free relay (3:41.88).
