Downey Earns Team MVP Honors

NEW PALTZ, NY — Heather Downey was named field hockey Most Valuable Player on May 7th at the SUNY New Paltz Athletic Banquet.

Downey, a senior defender, played in all 16 games this season for the Hawks. Downey anchored a defense that recorded two shutout victories and she contributed to the offense registering one assist this season.

For her play, Downey was named second team all-league by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team had an overall record of 3-13 under first-year head coach Bill Davidson to register its highest win total in just three years as a varsity program.
