Hawks Lose 5-2 at The College of New Jersey

EWING, NJ – — The College of New Jersey raised its record to 27-6-1 with a 5-2 win over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon at George Ackerman Park.

Four TCNJ pitchers combined for nine strikeouts while allowing seven hits. Freshman Jonathan Mish (Basking Ridge, NJ) went five innings to pick up his first collegiate victory.

With New Paltz trailing 1-0 in the fourth, freshman first baseman Matt Zajdel (Agawam, MA) tied the score with an RBI double. However the Lions came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, keyed by a two-run homer off the bat of freshman catcher Dan Rella (Mt. Laurel, NJ).

The College of New Jersey added a single run in the bottom of the fifth to move ahead 5-1. In the top of the sixth, senior shortstop Randy Walters (Collierville, TN) hit his first homer of the year to pull the Hawks to within 5-2.

Freshman righthander Marc Bernstein (Altamonte Springs, FL) started for New Paltz (8-26) and went the distance. In eight innings of work, he allowed 10, gave five runs, walked five and struck out five. He is now 2-5.
