NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold a reconstruction ceremony at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, for the van den Berg Learning Center. This project involves the rehabilitation of the entire building to accommodate the School of Business and the Nursing program.
In the $11 million reconstruction project, $8 million of which is funded by State University of New York Construction Fund Capital Funding, SUNY New Paltz looks to raise the remaining $3 million through a private fund raising initiative to complete the project and accommodate the School of Business’ rapid growth.
Once complete, the renovation will double the amount of classroom and lab space for the School of Business and incorporate several state-of-the-art “smart classrooms.” In addition, the project includes the restoration of the clock tower atop the building that was destroyed by fire in May 1990. The estimated date of completion of the approximate 50,200 square-foot building is December 2005.
Most recently, the building was home to the School of Business, the Nursing program, the Child Care Center, which has moved to its permanent location at the south end of campus, and the Student Counseling Center which has been relocated to the newly re-opened Student Health and Psychological Counseling Center.
The reconstruction ceremony will take place at the main entrance to the van den Berg Learning Center on Tricor Avenue, and is open to the public.
