Ithaca Spoils Hawks’ Home Opener

NEW PALTZ, NY — The visiting Ithaca Bombers spoiled the SUNY New Paltz baseball team’s home opener Thursday with a 10-1 victory.

The Bombers started quickly as they loaded the bases with no outs in the first. They managed three runs in the inning including two on centerfielder Ben McBride’s (Ridgefield, CT) two-RBI single.

After adding one in the second, the Bombers surrendered what would turn out to be the Hawks’ lone run in the fourth on Joe Papasidero’s (Goshen, NY) RBI-single.

The Bombers added another run in the sixth before erupting for five in the seventh for the 10-1 margin of victory. Five different Bombers had RBIs in the inning.

Pitcher Kyle Sottung (Pulaski, NY) got the victory on the hill for Ithaca going seven innings. The junior right-hander gave up one run on six hits and struck out six batters.

Marc Bernstein (Altamonte Springs, FL) pitched six innings for the Hawks giving up nine hits and striking out seven batters.
