First Union Bank and SUNY New Paltz unite to establish scholarship fund

NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz and First Union Bank are pleased to announce the establishment of the First Union Foundation Scholarship Fund. The bank donated $5,000 toward the scholarship endowment.

“The relationship with First Union is an example of the kind of business-campus partnership that will help New Paltz implement one of its top fund raising priorities: raising a permanent endowment that will fund merit-based scholarships,” said Interim President Steven Poskanzer. “We are just so delighted that the bank recognizes the importance of providing an extraordinary college education to talented students.”

Jim Fitzgerald, First Union’s Regional President for New York and Connecticut, said, “Education is all about opportunity, without a solid education, it’s difficult to compete in today’s economy. At First Union we’re committed to supporting locally-based education initiatives to help create a promising future for today’s young people, so this partnership with SUNY New Paltz is totally consistent with our community strategies — we’re privileged to be part of this endeavor.”
