SUNYIT’s Second Half Downs New Paltz

UTICA, NY — After trailing New Paltz 33-25 at the half, SUNYIT exploded for 53 points in the second half to pull away for a 78-70 victory.

Nick Grimmer (New Hartford, NY) poured in 35 points making 16 of 21 shots for the game to lead the Wildcat attack.

Jerry Buckley (Binghamton, NY) added 14 points for SUNYIT and Malcolm Stanton (Brooklyn, NY) and Kazy Payne (New York, NY) chipped in with 10 apiece.

Senior Steve Tobitsch (New Canaan, CT) had 18 points and nine rebounds for New Paltz (7-16, 4-10) while Steve Ott (New Paltz, NY) added 12 points and 13 boards. Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) contributed 10.

The Hawks still have an outside shot at a SUNYAC playoff berth but need some help. New Paltz must beat Potsdam on Friday and Plattsburgh on Saturday and hope for two Geneseo losses this weekend at Fredonia and Brockport to qualify.
