Hawks Down Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team got back into the win column tonight with a 74-64 victory over Vassar.

New Paltz had lost two heartbreakers in a row to Cortland 51-50 and Oneonta 90-88 in overtime in their last two games.

The Hawks went into the half down 27-25 to their mid-Hudson rivals but were able to bounce back in the second half outscoring the Brewers 49-37. New Paltz held the Brewers to just 35% shooting the entire game.

Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) paced New Paltz shooting 8-for-12 from the field for 18 points. Jonathan Towles (Jamaica, NY) added 11 and Steve Tobitsch (New Canaan, CT) scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Jud Winton (San Francisco, CA) was Vassar’s high scorer with 17.

The Hawks now gear up for their final five SUNYAC games of the season in less than two weeks starting with Oswego and Buffalo State Friday and Saturday.
