NEW PALTZ, NY — Cortland outscored New Paltz 17-6 in the last six minutes of the game Tuesday night to escape with a 53-46 victory.
The Hawks took the lead late on Kim Weigel’s (Whitestone, NY) free throw 46-45 with 1:54 left but were unable to score for the remainder of the game. Kaylin VanDusen’s (Schuyler, NY) free throw tied the score and Noelle Picone’s (Mahopac, NY) basket gave the Red Dragons the lead for good 48-46 with 1:17 left. Michelle Ciquera (Massapequa, NY) sealed the game scoring the next four Cortland points.
The Hawks were led by Silver Williams (Newburgh, NY) who ended the game with 13 points. Weigel and Maura McShane (East Rockaway, NY) each added 12.
Ciquera paced the Red Dragons with 15 points. Picone added 12 and VanDusen had 11.
The Hawks are back in action Friday night at Elting against Oneonta at 6:00 p.m.
