NEW PALTZ — Professor John Kekes, a well known author and a professor of philosophy and public policy at the State University of New York at Albany, will speak on conservatism at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, at SUNY New Paltz in the Old Main Building, room 215.
“Ideas associated with conservatism are often hard to come by at colleges and universities, even those that purport to be concerned about diversity,” said Eugene Heath, associate professor of philosophy at SUNY New Paltz. “We are most fortunate to have this renown philosopher speaking at New Paltz, to the benefit of the college, the community, and intellectual diversity.”
Kekes has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Canada Council, Rockefeller Foundation, and the Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio. He has also written over one hundred essays on topics of moral and political philosophy, as well as epistemology. He is the author of Against Liberalism (Cornell, 1997), A Case for Conservatism (Cornell, 1998) and most recently The Illusions of Egalitarianism (Cornell 2003).
