Men 7th, Women 8th at ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships

SEWELL, NJ — The men placed 7th and the women were 8th at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend at Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, NJ.

The men finished the championships with 262 points in 7th. Rowan finished 1st with 605 points followed by Hartwick (500), and Geneseo (423).

The women were 8th with 249 total points. NYU took the title with 588 points followed by Rowan (504), and Washington (425).

Sophomore Kent Yeung highlighted the championships for the Hawks claiming the ECAC title in the 100-yard backstroke capping the race in 54.44 seconds. Yeung also placed 6th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.85.

Also for the men, Jeff Galaise was 7th in the 200 backstroke (2:04.05) and Jon Sousa was 9th in the 200 butterfly (2:03.57).

The team of Yeung, Sousa, Jon Amoia, and Mark Costello finished 4th in the 400-yard medley relay coming in at 4:43.25. Sousa and Yeung also teamed up with Jeff Galaise and Jay Sousa to take 6th in the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.

On the women’s side, Danielle Lindner placed 2nd in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.40, 5th in the 100 backstroke (1:02.08), and 6th in the 200 individual medley (2:18.07).

Joanna Masterson was 3rd in the 50-yard freestyle finishing in 25.15 seconds and Mallory Grempel was 4th in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.58) and 5th in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.59).

Lindner, Masterson, and Grempel also teamed up with senior Molly Soule to take 4th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.62) and 5th in the 200 medley relay (1:55.96).

The men’s team will next be in action at RPI Jan. 11th before the women join them for a meet at Geneseo Jan. 15th.
