Women’s Soccer Gets NYSWCAA Tournament Berth

NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team received the sixth and final seed in the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tournament Sunday.

The Hawks will face #3 seed Manhattanville on Tues., Nov. 5th at 2:00 p.m. at Manhattanville College. A win sends them into the semifinals against RIT this Saturday.

The top two seeds in the tournament, RPI and RIT, receive first-round byes and advance to this weekend’s semifinals hosted by RPI. In the remaining opening-round game, #5 seed Vassar travels to #4 Fredonia.

The Hawks are looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to Manhattanville that occurred on the second day of the Mid-Hudson Classic in early September.

New Paltz is led in scoring by freshman Matty Schwartz (Weston, CT) who has scored four goals and assisted on six this season. Sophomore Lauren Martone (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) leads the team in goals with six and freshman Winnie Lento (Patchogue, NY) has cracked the 10-point mark with three goals and four assists.

Manhattanville is currently 9-9 on the season and is led by senior forward Susan Horton (Cutchogue, NY) who has scored 21 goals this season and holds the all-time school records for career goals (76) and career points (174).
