NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz will welcome prospective students for its 2002 Fall Open House from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 9 to offer information about academic programs, student services, admissions, financial aid, residence life, student activities, athletics and recreation, internships and international education.
Admissions, faculty, staff and students will be available to answer questions throughout the day so prospective students and their parents can learn about what New Paltz has to offer. The academic fair (at Elting Gymnasium) and student services fair (at Student Union Building) will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Campus tours and Residence Life tours will run continuous throughout the day as well. FAST FACTS:
There are roughly 8,000 full- and part-time graduate and undergraduate students at New Paltz. This fall, the university enrolled its largest number of full-time students at the graduate (485) and undergraduate (5,290) levels. New Paltz offers more than 300 undergraduate programs in five schools:
- College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- School of Business
- School of Education
- School of Fine and Performing Arts
- School of Science and Engineering
New Paltz is the only public institution between New York City and Albany with an MBA program. There are 324 full-time faculty, a 10 percent increase from 1999, and the average class size is 21 students. Close to 10,000 applicants vied for 925 freshman openings this fall (New Paltz is among the 5 percent of U.S. campuses that accepts fewer than 50 percent of its applicants). Eighty-four percent of freshmen entering in fall 2001 returned for fall 2002, compared to a retention rate of 76 percent in 1996.
