Goodwin and Holton Earn All-SUNYAC Cross Country Accolades

NEW PALTZ – — SUNY New Paltz men’s cross country standouts Phil Goodwin (Rochester, NY – Gates/Chili) and Dan Holton (Rhinebeck, NY – Rhinebeck HS) earned all-conference accolades at the 2002 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Oct. 26) in Brockton, NY.

Goodwin, a senior, completed the five-mile course at Lake Erie State Park in 26:51.61 to earn second team All-SUNYAC honors. It’s the fourth time in Goodwin’s career that he has earned all-conference recognition. As a junior, he was an All-SUNYAC first team member after finishing fifth with a time of 26:27 at the 2001 event hosted by SUNY New Paltz.

As a sophomore in 2000, Goodwin also took home first team All-SUNYAC accolades after finishing sixth with a time of 27:16. He also shined at the conference championship as a freshman, finishing eighth with a time of 26:46 to earn a spot on the all-conference second team.

Goodwin’s storied career at SUNY New Paltz also includes a membership in the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame. Goodwin was inducted into the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame following his performance in 2000. To qualify a runner must place in the top five once, top 10 twice, or top 15 three times.

Holton, a junior, also picked up second team All-SUNYAC honors after finishing ninth with a time of 26:51.84. It was the first time in Holton’s three-year career that he achieved All-SUNYAC status. He has been among the top two finishers for the Hawks in four of their five meets this fall.

Holton was first for the Hawks and 34th overall with a time of 27:49 at the Keene State Invitational on October 5. He was also first for SUNY New Paltz and 10th overall with a mark of 27:06 at the Hamilton College Invitational the following week.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s cross country team finished fourth among 10 teams with 111 points. Geneseo captured the conference championship with a total of 60 points.
