Strong Second Half Leads Vassar Over Hawks

NEW PALTZ — The Vassar women’s soccer team improved its record to 3-3 with a 3-1 victory over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon.

The Brewers used a strong second half to climb to the .500 mark. Sophomore forward Sarah Combs (Anchorage, AK) helped lead the attack assisting on the tying goal at 55:20 and then scoring what proved to be the game-winner in the 75th minute.

Vassar put the game away in the 82nd minute when freshman midfielder Patricia Walsh (Ronkonkoma, NY) fired a shot that hit the right post and bounced past New Paltz goalkeeper Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) and into the goal.

SUNY New Paltz (4-6) took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when sophomore forward Lauren Martone (Hastings, NY) fought off Vassar freshman goalie Heather Jaffe (Belle Mead, NY) in front of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
