NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz has announced the appointment of Ann Lovett as the interim dean of the School of Fine and Performing Arts for the 2002-03 academic year, a position she previously held for seven months in 2000.
“I am delighted that Ann Lovett has agreed to serve as interim dean of the School of Fine and Performing Arts,” said Interim President Steven Poskanzer. “She is a terrific artist and teacher. She possesses great taste in terms of evaluating artistic and academic quality, and she demonstrates good judgment in terms of understanding and advancing the immediate and long-term goals of her department and her school.”
Lovett joined the faculty of SUNY New Paltz in 1982 as an assistant professor of art. She was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 1988 and to the rank of full professor in 1996. Lovett earned the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1989. She was a co-founder of the Visual Research Laboratory, an interdisciplinary graduate program that integrates photography, graphic design and digital media, and has served as its director since 1999.
“The School of Fine and Performing Arts is always a dynamic and interesting place to be, and we have some great programs coming up this year,” said Lovett. “I’m pleased to be back as interim dean and look forward to an exciting and productive year.”
Lovett has achieved substantial recognition for her creative work in photography, artists’ books and multimedia through grants, exhibitions and collections. She was recently selected by the New York Foundation for the Arts to receive a 2002-2003 Individual Artist Fellowship in Photography. Lovett is a resident of Gardiner, N.Y.
