From Connecticut to New Paltz

NEW PALTZ — Mike Salerno (New London, CT), former SID (Sports Information Director) for Connecticut College, moves to the State University of New York at New Paltz. Salerno will direct the Sports Information Department at the University.

Serving as the SID at Connecticut College for the last five years, Salerno looks onward and upward for new challenges. “There is a lot of progress being made at SUNY New Paltz, not just in the athletics department but throughout the campus community. To be a part of that is exciting,” remarked Salerno.

In his new position, Mike looks to expand the coverage of all the student-athletes on and off campus. “SUNY New Paltz has a lot of talented student-athletes and I’m looking forward to publicizing their achievements,” said Salerno.

With Mike’s arrival, the New Paltz staff eagerly anticipates his presence within the department. “His enthusiasm and love of sport reveals itself through the presentation of the work he has created in the past. With that, Mike provides us with a great vision of where he would like the Sports Information Department to be,” said Phillip Roloson, Assistant to the Athletic Director. Head Athletic Trainer, Corey Smith comments, “Mike’s expertise and experience will allow him to make an immediate, positive impact.”

“Mike brings a wealth of experience as a one man operation for 30 sports. His energy and drive will help to enhance the efforts to publicize the accomplishments of our student- athletes,” commented Director of Athletics, Stuart Robinson.

With all of the pieces combining like a jigsaw puzzle, Salerno looks to make New Paltz his new home. “I had a great experience meeting with Director of Athletics Stuart Robinson and his entire staff. I think this is a department that’s on its way to doing a lot of positive things and that’s something that I’m looking forward to being a part of,” Salerno concluded.
