W. New England Quick Start Sinks Hawks

NEW PALTZ — The visiting Western New England baseball team got nine runs in the first two innings en route to an 11-3 win over New Paltz Tuesday. The Hawks slip to 7-15-1 on the year.

The Hawks rapped out fourteen hits in the game but left thirteen on base. Vinnie Perry (Kingston, NY) knocked in the first two runs for the Hawks in the first and fifth innings on RBI doubles, and Tom Bigler (Brewster, NY) drove in Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY) in the sixth to account for New Paltz runs. Smith went 4 for 4 for the Hawks and Ernesto Sosa (Santa Domingo, DR) and Perry had 3 hits apiece. John Miraldi (Denville, NJ) took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning, giving up five runs on four hits. Jesus Estaba (Brooklyn, NY) pitched 7 and 2/3 innings in relief, surrendering two runs and eight hits.

New Paltz returns to the field Wednesday at Farmingdale.
