Sharp Breaks 100-Point Barrier In Loss to Fredonia

NEW PALTZ — Katie Sharp (Mineola, NY) wasted little time Saturday in breaking the 100-point mark for her career. Sharp needed just one point to go over 100 and it took the senior attacker just over two minutes. Sharp was not finished there as she scored five more times in the game in a 13-12 loss to Fredonia. Sharp now stands at 106 points for her career and is the all-time leading scorer in New Paltz women’s lacrosse history. Sharp now has another milestone in her sights as she has 94 goals in her career, 6 short of 100.

After a 7-6 lead at the half, the Hawks took command scoring the first three goals of the second half to take a 10-6 lead. The Blue Devils stormed back scoring the next four to tie the game. After taking the lead once again, the Hawks let in three straight to Fredonia and trailed 13-11 with less than five minutes to play. Sharp tallied with 1:45 left in the game to cut the lead to one, but New Paltz was unable to even things up. In addition to Sharp’s six goals, Jillian Sheppard (Stony Brook, NY) and Megan Porter (Massapequa, NY) each had two, and Mary Warren (Mineola, NY) and Jackie Bunzel (Massapequa, NY) had one a piece. Goalkeeper Adrian Grasso (Oceanside, NY) made 18 saves for New Paltz in the match.

The Hawks will play their final home game of the season Tuesday against Vassar starting at 4:00.
