Oswego, Cortland Sweep Softball

OSWEGO, CORTLAND — Women’s softball returned home from the weekend 0-4 with 4- 1 and 11-3 losses to Oswego and 9-0 and 13-2 losses to Cortland.

Against Oswego in game one, a three-run homer by Willow Eyres in the bottom of the fourth sealed the win for the Lakers. The game had been tied at one since the second inning when Lisa Mason (Camillus, NY) singled home Liz Hock (Latham, NY). After the homerun though, the Hawks could only manage one more hit from Jen Born (Walroth, NY) the rest of the game. Kristin Ackerman (Middletown, NY) pitched well for the Hawks giving up just six hits in six innings of work.

In game two, the Hawks fell behind 8-0 after two innings. New Paltz got all three of their runs in the 4th on Liz Hock’s RBI double, Jen Varrone’s (New Paltz, NY) RBI groundout, and Katie Monahan’s (Port Jefferson Station, NY) RBI-triple. Varrone took the loss for New Paltz giving up eleven hits in six innings.

In game one against Cortland, the Hawks could only manage one hit the entire game from Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY). The Red Dragons, on the other hand, banged out nine runs on eight hits in the 4 and ½ inning game. Kirstene Craig (Stone Ridge, NY) took the loss pitching 3 and 1/3 giving up eight hits.

In game two, the Red Dragons pulled away in the middle innings getting five in the fourth and four in the fifth en route to a 13-2 win. New Paltz got their two runs in the third on Tricia Cascio’s (Farmingville, NY) RBI-double, and Schropfer’s RBI-groundout. Ackerman pitched the first 3 and 1/3 giving up four hits in the loss.

Women’s softball will play again Wednesday at home against Western Connecticut at 3:30.
