Metro Tournament A Success For Men’s Tennis

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY — Taking on opposition from primarily the Division I level, the New Paltz men’s tennis team showed what they were made of this weekend at the Metro Tournament in Flushing Meadows, NY as every player reached at least the semi-final round.

New Paltz #2 Tiby Taran (Brooklyn Kings, NY) and #3 Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY) both reached the finals of their respected flights. Taran and Calise both lost in the finals to players from Hofstra and Manhattan by 2-0 scores.

#1 Ed Paulinski (Floral Park, NY) and #4 Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY) fell in the semis also to Manhattan players and Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY) and Josh Greenspan (North Babylon, NY) both lost to Division I Rutgers’ athletes.

In doubles play, Paulinski and Taran lost 2-0 to Hofstra in the #1 semifinals, Calise and Brakstine lost 2-1 in the #2 semis to Rutgers, and Palmenteri and David Bridglall (Bronx, NY) lost 2-0 in the #3 semifinals to Manhattan.

The men’s tennis team next takes on Union on Tuesday at home beginning at 3:30pm.
